Boys Having Fun

We visited Carla, Nate and Jacob last week when Jamie was out of town on business. We got to see some great friends, too, but I forgot to bring my camera in when we stopped there so no photos of the boys with our friends. The three boys had a great time together playing in Carla and Nate's basement and at an open gym near their house.

Skating

Jonathan and Jamie took skating lessons for 6 weeks this winter. Jonathan held true to form: he spent most of the time in the rink watching other children and observing all that was going on. He liked the skating somewhat but I think he just liked watching what everyone else was doing. Caleb and I went to "watch" for the last lesson and Jonathan begged me to come into the rink with him. Here are the photos of my little guy's skating debut:

February Blah

When I was teaching I vowed to remember that February was just a frustrating time of year and that the irritations I had with life at that moment would undeniably look less irritating in a month. The students always seemed less whiny, the grading less insurmountable, and life more enjoyable once mid-March was upon us. And, I must remind myself of this fact as a stay-at-home mother.

Yesterday Jonathan spent two HOURS sitting at the kitchen table with glue (LOTS), paper, scissors, and tape. He was making "objects" to decorate Daddy's office and "valentines" for Caleb and me. We have countless, very gluey, projects taped up around this house as evidence of his creative time.

Caleb is actually cuddling with us. This is truly blog-worthy for my boy. My children have not previously cuddled or snuggled more than for brief moments and then they're off to do something. Caleb gets up in the morning and cuddles. It's just wonderful!

Yesterday we played in the snow for an hour. That was a little long for little Caleb and he was really peeved at me by the time we got all of the clothes off and were settled back inside. However, he napped for 3 hours in the afternoon which sets a napping record in this house. We will likely be out there again very soon!

Hoping for mid-March...

Helmets, Football, Tackle

I can only imagine how many posts in the coming years will be titled with this theme... tackling, wrestling, football, and so the list continues. We don't have pretty dresses or dress up parties around here: we tackle.
I walked into the living room to see Jonathan, Caleb and Jamie with their bicycle helmets on... playing football. Jonathan yells to me with unrestrained excitement, "MOM! We have helmets and we're playing football!!"

"Fixing Caleb"

Jamie and I used to be the ones in need of "fixing" but now Caleb has been given that position of honor. Jamie and I were talking and the boys were playing. When we glanced at them we saw Caleb willingly subjecting himself to repair.

These boys already have a delightful time together, and I look forward to many, many great memories of them playing together. Fighting, too. But, I'll focus on remembering the playing.

Faces of Caleb

One of the joys of my days is walking in to get Caleb in the morning or after his nap. He gives me one of two looks: the "I'm going to give you a run for your money" look or the 100-watt smile. Either way, I'm sold.

When I Grow Up...

Get used to posts about this topic because kids AND adults change their mind about this topic a terrific number of times. Also, this parent thinks these conversations are amusing so will likely write about them so as to remember them later.

During a recent conversation:
Jonathan: "When I grow up I want to be a daddy. Daddy and I can both be daddies together."
Me: "Will you have little boys just like your daddy has little boys?"
Jonathan: "Yes, I will have a Jonathan and a Caleb. I think that would be good. Do you think that would be good?"
Me: "Yes, I think that would be very good. I think Daddy would really like to be a daddy with you."
Jonathan: "Yeah, and you can still be the mommy."
